Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML)
VRML is an exciting new technology to add 3-D worlds to the Internet. Create 3-D Home Pages now with 2-D HTML anchors to points of interest. Or add anchors to 3-D objects that link to other 3-D VRML sites.
For more information on VRML, use a Web tool or site that has search capability
and search for VRML. It’s such a hot technology that there has been new news
since we wrote this sentence! Try EINet Galaxy (http://www.einet.net) for a
search capability if your browser does not have one. The search dialog is at the
bottom of of the home page.
3-D Stereo Troubleshooting
Q: Walk View is hard to control. How do I fix it?
A: You have probably changed the Stereo Preference settings. Try resetting them
to their defaults. Also, a common problem is caused by Walk View settings
that create a telephoto effect. Set the Lens Focal Length Tool to less than
50.
Q: I don’t get a stereo effect! How do I fix it?
A: It is very possible that certain settings will result in no stereo effect
whatsoever (i.e. both eyes are seeing the same thing). Try changing the
values back to the defaults.
Q: I can’t get the image to fuse. I’m using a Stereo Pairs display type.
A: Try making the Walk View window narrower horizontally or moving farther away
from the monitor. Some people have a hard time fusing images that are too
spread out horizontally. Then again, some people can fuse an apple and a
banana that are pasted on their ears.
Q: What's the best graphics mode for the software?
A: Virtus WalkThrough Pro will work best in the 640 x 480, 256-colors
mode. Keep in mind that selecting thousands of colors for your
display or choosing a larger resolution (1280 x 1024, for example) will
require more dynamic memory; these choices will slow your walk
speed.
Q: Why are objects flashing on and off as I walk through a model?
A: Virtus WalkThrough Pro VRML mathematically calculates each new view as
you are walking. The more complicated your model, the more
calculations are required to render your new position. Occasionally,
WalkThrough Pro VRML has trouble rendering everything 100% correctly; we call
these sorting errors. To improve rendering of objects, first check
for overlapping objects. If there are no intersecting objects, then
you may want to recreate the "flashing" object in a different design
